Window film installation instructions

Play installation instructions for window films

Tools required:

  • Spray bottle
  • Adhesive tape
  • Squeegee
  • Knife
  • Kitchen roll (e.g. Zewa)
  • Glass scraper
  • Ruler or spacer

We recommend that 2 people carry out the installation!

Installing window films step by step - here's how!

  1. Clean the pane thoroughly and without leaving any residue using a cleaner or squeegee!

  2. Roughly cut the film to size. Never bend the film!

  3. Fill the sprayer with 500 ml water and 1 FMO Mounting concentrate 15 ml. Alternatively, you can also use washing-up liquid, but we do not recommend this as it could turn the adhesive on the window film white.

  4. Apply 2 strips of adhesive tape/Tesa to one corner of the film so that one strip is on the front and one on the back. Remove ONLY the transparent protective film over the adhesive side by gently pulling the two strips of tesa apart.

  5. Moisten the adhesive side of the film and the window pane with plenty of mixture from the sprayer.

  6. Apply the film to the center of the pane. Caution: the film must be very easy to move!

  7. Moisten the back of the film well to make it easier to squeegee later.

  8. Remove the edges of the film with a cutter knife or use a ruler or spacer to help. Make sure that there is a gap of approx. 1 mm to 1.5 mm between the window frame and the film.

  9. Carefully and completely squeeze out / squeegee out the water under the film with a squeegee. Important: Do not leave any residual water under the film! Otherwise you run the risk of the film coming loose again or the residual water under the film forming bubbles.

  10. Dry the film and the edges of the film thoroughly with kitchen roll paper.

  11. Recommendation: Outer films and insulating/cold protection films should be sealed at the edges with transparent silicone.

Important: Never cover part of the window - risk of glass breakage!

Only apply sun protection film to the outside of gas-filled panes and sloping roof windows. Exception: frosted glass, decorative and transparent UV protection films.
