Installation instructions for car color film wrapping Cast vehicle wrapping
FILM APPLICATION ON VEHICLES :
1 Preliminary remarks:
The decisive factor for a successful vehicle wrap is to familiarize yourself with the vehicle conditions in advance so that you can then select the right type of film for the job. In other words, the following questions need to be answered:
-
How old is the vehicle or the paintwork?
-
Are there any rust spots?
-
What is the condition of the vehicle, especially the paintwork?
-
Are plastic parts to be covered?
-
Are there any difficult beads or rivets to be masked?
-
How big is the vehicle?
-
What problem areas are there?
The vehicle paint must have a cross-cut value of 0 (zero) in accordance with DIN EN ISO 2409. In this case, the adhesion between the individual layers of paint is higher than the adhesion between a self-adhesive film and the top layer of paint. This means that damage to the painted substrate caused by the pressure-sensitive adhesive system of the self-adhesive films can be ruled out.
Once these questions have been clarified, the use of one of the following two film types can be determined:
-
Calendered, relatively strong films for full-surface bonding without "problem areas"; these have the advantage of a certain robustness and good removability
-
Cast films for problematic surface profiles with the advantage of good processability in the thermoforming process
2 Procedure:
We recommend only using material from the same batch for a graphic application. However, if material from different batches is to be used, the processor should check whether any batch-related differences have an effect on the processing of the films and the result.
-
The substrate must be thoroughly cleaned before applying the film. A cleaning agent that dries residue-free and does not contain plasticizers should be used for this purpose. Isopropanol or ethanol (spirit), for example, are suitable. We recommend using our cleaning products from the accessories category.
-
The substrate should be dry and dust-free before applying the film.
-
The film should be applied at a room temperature of at least 15°C.
-
The film should be brought to room temperature before application.
-
During application, make sure that no air bubbles remain under the film.
-
The film should be pressed on with a squeegee or a soft cloth.
-
For difficult bonding (e.g. beading or riveting), the film can be heated with a hot air gun. This makes the film more elastic and easier to work with.
-
After application, the film should be pressed down again with a squeegee or a soft cloth.
-
The film should cure for at least 24 hours after application before the vehicle is washed.
-
The film should be cleaned regularly to extend its service life.
3 Notes:
The application of vehicle films requires experience and skill. We therefore recommend having the application carried out by a specialist company. If you wish to carry out the application yourself, we recommend that you obtain detailed information beforehand and, if necessary, attend a training course.
